Using protective coatings to isolate metal surfaces in contact with electrical substances used in external environments is the most widely used method of corrosion protection. The two most important properties of barrier protection are adhesion to the metal surface and durability of the coating.
When dry, the zinc coating has two protective functions: the first is a passive protection function with a traditional painted metal protective film. The second function is active protection, which is the cathodic protection function. This function is found in the hot-dip galvanizing protective coating.
