How is the AZ150 coating of BlueScope’s Zincalume steel different from that of Z275 and Z180 of galvanized steel?
- The detail table in question 04 shows that the thickness of the Z275 coating is 0.04mm while the thickness of the AZ150 coating is 0.05mm.
- With equal coating thickness, BlueScope’s Zincalume steel has a service life of 2 to 6 times longer (depending on environmental conditions) than galvanized steel.
- The service life of galvanized steel (G.I.) is directly proportional to the coating thickness. Z180 coating has a thickness of only 2/3 of the thickness of Z275, so its life is only 2/3 of Z275, if the same thickness of the base steel.
What is the mass advantage when using BlueScope Steel Zincalume?
Taking the example of base steel with a thickness of 0.42mm, the area calculated per ton of product is:
No plating 303.3 m2
- Z200 284.3
- Z275 278.8
- AZ150 288.4
By analyzing simple data, we can easily see that AZ150 steel is slightly better than Z275 zinc coating by 3.5% in area, and compared to Z180 by 1%. However, this comparison is still lame because the outstanding longevity of BlueScope Zincalume AZ150 steel far exceeds that of galvanized steel.
